Services / Shotcrete
The process of coating a surface by spraying with concrete or mortar is called SHOTCRETE.
In shotcrete, compressed air is used to push the concrete at a very high speed through an adjustable nozzle. The concrete speed can be controlled by increasing or decreasing the diameter of the nozzle.
There are two methods by which torcreting is performed:
- DRY METHOD - the concrete-forming components are mixed with water at the outlet of the nozzle. The operator can adjust the amount of water depending on the particularities of the surface to be sprayed;
- WET METHOD - Prepared concrete is sprayed onto the surface to be covered. This method can cover large areas in short periods of time.
Generally, shotcrete is used to fix unstable surfaces. They are reinforced with a metal net laid out on the outline, mesh covered by shotcrete.
Shotcrete is a common practice in road and tunnel construction and in the rehabilitation of old structures by adding a new high-strength concrete layer.
